Meet Team Tomato: Mo Rusnak

Hometown: Menomonee Falls, WI

Favorite Pizza: Wild Pie, no olives

Favorite Non-Pizza Item: Artichoke Dip or PBJ

Favorite Beer: Anything sour or dark

Favorite Musician/Band: “My favorite music genre is a split between super folk or post punk without much in between. I love the Wood Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show but also the Pixies and Talking Heads.” She streams 88.9 out of Milwaukee to get new music.

It was Mo’s love of beer that led her to discover Wild Tomato. “When we decided to move up to Door County, I googled best beer lists in the state and Wild Tomato was at the top of the list.” We are so glad she did.

Mo has been a part of Wild Tomato as a server for the past four years. “I love that it’s a giant family. We love and fight like family. There are no grudges to be held,” said Mo. “You can be gone for few years and come back. There’s always a home here.

When she’s not on the floor at the tomato, you will likely find her flying through a nonfiction book with her cat Lily on her lap, enjoying a bahn mi at Blue Front Café or canning some of her famous Dilly Beans. “Everyone gets their Christmas gifts in jars,” said Mo. She grows anything she can pickle, ferment or can and right now she’s even got a batch of sauerkraut in process. Her claim to fame last year was a pineapple jalapeno kombucha that she crafted herself.

On her list of hobbies is her work. In addition to serving at Wild Tomato, she works at The Ridges Sanctuary as Assistant Manager of Guest Services where she does special event planning, all the volunteer coordinating and all the buying for the Nature Store.

It’s the community she loves about Door County and after moving here four years ago from Milwaukee she is happy to call it home. “We moved to Door County for a change of pace. The mix of people is what I like best. Everyone has a story and you get to know everyone, especially in the winter,” she says with a smile.
